v2012.0 [Jul 19, 2012]
Library updating over the network:
Added a new library updating scheme. Should resolve issues with unnecessary reloading. In addition, if the filepaths remain unchanged, the library should, even if it does reload, take you approximately back to where you were before.
Installer changes:
Added SoundRouter and Evolution Scheduler to the installer so that these core programs are installed at the same time as DPS. Note: This infers no rights to use the programs outside of their trial periods; you still need a licence to run them -- please check your invoice for details. The installers run silently but are subject to our usual EULA.
AutoID:
Revamped for 2012+, eliminating many bugs. Its now easier to use, but the basic functionality has not changed.
For Windows 7:
Replaced the browse for folder dialog box with one that doesn't display "current user" button instead of "new folder" button!
**MAJOR NEW PLAYBACK ENGINE UPDATE**
-- SOME SUPPORT FOR USING MULTIPLE CHANNELS OF 5.1 AND 7.1 AUDIO DEVICES
If you have a multi-channel audio device, and the device supports it, you may now split your 5.1 or 7.1 sound card into multiple channels for DPS.
For example, you can have Cart1 on channels 1-2, Cart2 on channels 2-3, etc, etc. In this way, you can assign the faders on your studio desk to each individual cart without specialist audio cards! (tested on USB 7.1 card and with some limited success on SB Live! cards).Success really depends on the drivers for your audio -- many are bugged but its worth a try. You can configure the destination channels for the
DPS players in the hardware config from the main menu (config).
NOTE: you MUST set the number and type of speakers correctly in control panel
/sounds for DPS to detect the multi-channel cards correctly.
**New** Uptime display in program title bar:
For some, especially mostly automated stations, it is very useful, and has been requested often, that we keep an uptime display in the program. Its now available on the top program bar, and is updated every 10 seconds with the uptime since you started DPS in that session.
Import of mp3 audio:
Speed and accuracy of mp3 duration import is now improved once more. Any files that come in with hideous duration, or won't play at all:Please first check they they are Constant Bit Rate (CBR). If theyare Variable Bit Rate (VBR) then you should use a conversion toolto convert them to VBR (There is one available from the library
right click menu, provided you can get them in the library in the
first place!!) As a general rule, DPS DOES NOT support the use
of variable bit rate files as they cause problems in seeking.
Import of Years behaviour:
On Import: songs with years already set in the id3 tag are now importing the
year that was saved into the id3 tag in preference to the autotagged year. If no
valid year is found, then and only then is the year attempted to be looked up
in the accompanying songinfo file.
DPS seems to be working now in Windows Vista, and Windows 7 (with elevation)
Please report any outstanding issues as they arise. Please note: Some of the
older XP functionality may _never_ be available under Vista and above, but we
will support it on a "best effort" basis!
Improved category input verification in Editplayer:
DPS now checks the category names are suitable for inclusion in the database, and
especially for use in Evolution Scheduler, before allowing them to be committed (saved).
One-time library scan:
DPS now performs a one-time library scan once per new edition to verify the songs
in the library to avoid problems with lost sectones, incompatibilities in editing,
and so on. You can also check this at will from a new library right-click menu,
"Library management - check all durations". This is especially important if you
are using TagEditor to set up your audio!
